All-rounder Shadab Khan has finally given an explanation of his newfound prowess with the batting, crediting his purple patch seen in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 to the time he spent in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as well as the hard work he put in the nets.

Shadab, previously only viewed as a legspinner, exploded with the bat in the PSL 2020, scoring 263 runs (fifth-highest) in 8 innings at an average of 37.57. His batting contribution caught even his staunchest of supporters by surprise as he justified Islamabad United's decision to appoint him their captain even if the franchise finished last.

Shadab, in a video on YouTube, said that his improvement wasn't down to some magic but a product of his hard work.

"I changed my number [in the batting order]. Also, going to play in the BPL has been the best decision of my career so far," Shadab said.

"Even though I didn’t play the initial matches, but I used to bat in the nets there for three to four hours against quality bowlers. I also performed with the bat in some matches, which increased my confidence and gave me self-belief."

The 21-year-old also picked his most memorable knock of PSL 2020 and recalled his experience of leading the franchise.

"My favourite moment in PSL was when I scored 77 against Peshawar. I particularly enjoyed scoring against Wahab Bhai because we had challenged each other earlier in BPL.

"I enjoyed my experience as a captain and my performances also improved because of it as I thrive under pressure," he said.
