Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United on Sunday appointed legspinner Shadab Khan their captain for the upcoming edition of the tournament.

The appointment means that Shadab, 21, becomes the youngest captain in PSL history.

"It gives us great joy to announce the youngest captain in PSL history, Pakistan’s star all-Rounder and our superstar," the franchise announced on Twitter.

Proud to be Islamabad United's captain. This franchise always promotes youngsters. I am thankful to them for putting their faith in me. I hope I can deliver another PSL [title], Shadab said.

United were captained by incumbent national team coach Misbah-ul-Haq for the first few seasons. The captaincy was handed over to Mohammad Sami last year, and it has now been passed on to Shadab.
