LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday attempted to dispel the controversy surrounding a viral video which shows some cricketers enjoying a late night out at a Sheesha lounge, allegedly a few hours before the all-important match against India.

The video in question shows veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik, his tennis ace wife Sania Mirza, opener Imam-ul-Haq, fast bowler Wahab Riaz, and all-rounder Imad Wasim enjoying a Sheesha night at a café. Social media users alleged the video was shot at around 2am on Sunday, mere hours before the game.

Claiming the allegations to be untrue, a PCB official told Geo News that the video was from two days before the Pakistan-India match, not the night before.

“The video being circulated is two days old. No player violated the curfew imposed by the management. The night before the match all the cricketers were in the team hotel,” the official clarified.

“The players took permission from the management to go out with their families,” he added.

The PCB has further vowed to evaluate the performances of all the players after the ongoing World Cup.

“The performances of the captain, coaches, and selectors are being monitored,” a statement said, adding that decisions won’t be rushed.
