Babar Azam says Fakhar Zaman’s innings ‘one of the best’ he’s seen

Pakistan captain Babar Azam could not stop himself from singing praises of top-order batsman Fakhar Zaman for playing an unbelievable knock against South Africa in the second one-day international (ODI) on Sunday.

“Fakhar's innings was one of the best I've seen,” Babar was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.

The left-handed batsman scored 193 runs off 155 balls, which is the highest ever by any batsman in ODI run chases. However, the fighting knock by Fakhar went in vain as Pakistan lost the match by 17 runs.

“[It’s] Unfortunate he couldn't finish it. Till Fakhar was playing, I had hope,” Babar said in the post-match presentation. “I think if he had a few other batsmen stood by with him, we would've won. Fakhar was doing [it] all alone.”

The Pakistani skipper was confident team will do better in the decider. “The mistakes we have done, we will try to fix them next game,” he said.

The three-match ODI series is leveled at 1-1 with the third and final game scheduled for April 7 at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
