Karachi: Haroon Malik, the chairman of FIFA appointed Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Normalisation Committee (NC), has outlined his priorities for the governing body while being at the helm of affairs.

Talking exclusively to Geo Super on Saturday, Haroon emphasized on the importance of day-to-day affairs along with mandate to hold free and fair elections in the federation.

“We are given a five-step mandate; step one includes day to day affairs followed by club registration, scrutiny and election process,” he told Geo Super on the sidelines of the ongoing National Women Football Championship (NWFC).

“It is important to have day to day affairs running; the NWFC is testament to that. Men’s camp will also be starting soon as we are going to play the SAFF [South Asian Football Federation] Cup, while PPL [Pakistan Premiere League] will be held later this year. If there is sport, then the federation is there but if there’s no sport then the federation is of no use.”

Haroon, who is a Canada based businessman, was named chairman of PFF NC in January after Hamza Khan had stepped down from his role. The committee was first announced in 2019 and has been given multiple deadlines to complete its tasks.

Regarding holding free and fair elections in the PFF, the NC chairman said he is aware of the major task. Haroon revealed that they are in process of discussing various aspects to move towards the election process and the schedule is likely to be circulated by mid-April.

“The normalization committee is discussing with stakeholders on how to move towards election schedule and I am very hopeful that we’ll be able to circulate election schedule by first or second week of April,” he said.

“Challenges are there, however, it is important to understand why such challenges have emerged. The community wants to play football and want things to go well. It is true that the task is not easy, but we will manage things because our football fraternity deserves a settled setup,” he added.
