Fast bowler Dale Steyn on Thursday questioned the absence of senior South African players in the Proteas squad for the four-match Twenty20 International series against Pakistan in April.
“I missed the reason why our big dogs aren’t playing the T20s against Pak?” Steyn tweeted after Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced squads for the upcoming home series.
Multiple top players, including David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje were not named in the T20I squad due to their Indian Premier League (IPL) commitments.
The CSA said that due to an agreement with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the aforementioned players were only selected in the ODI squad so that they can leave early to join their respective teams in IPL.
South Africa will play three ODIs and four T20Is against Pakistan from April 2 to April 16 in Centurion and Johannesburg.
