Rizwan promoted to Category A, Fawad to Category C of central contracts

Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday announced that wicket-keeper batsman Mohamamd Rizwan has been promoted to Category A of board’s central contract list and also included Fawad Alam in the list of centrally contracted cricketers.

Confirming the news in a press release, the PCB statement said that the reward is part of board’s policy to acknowledge players’ hard work. “I want to congratulate Rizwan and Fawad for earning well-deserved and well-earned promotions,” PCB’s Chief Executive Wasim Khan as quoted as saying.

“This is a reward for their hard work and high-quality performances during the difficult and challenging bio-secure environments that tested their determination, resolve, commitment, mental toughness and physical fitness to the limits.”

The statement said that Rizwan was promoted due to his stellar performances across all formats in the ongoing season. The 28-year-old is accompanying the national team captain Babar Azam, former captain Azhar Ali and star fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi in the elite category.

Meanwhile, former captain Mohammad Hafeez was also offered a Category C contract but he turned down PCB’s offer. “Mohammad Hafeez declined the reward and while I am disappointed, I fully respect his decision,” Wasim said.

“He wants to wait for the PCB Central Contract 2021-22 list, which he is fully entitled to. Hafeez has been one of our star performers of the season and we hope he will carry the form and momentum to Africa,” he added.
