Cricketer-turned-commentator Ramiz Raja feels that it is time for veteran all-rounders Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik to retire from international cricket instead of hanging in there in the hope of playing the World T20 at the end of the year.

Raja said that while the pair have served Pakistan a great deal, the options at head coach Misbah-ul-Haq's disposal means their services are no longer required.

"I try and not talk about the conduct of any individual but the direction of cricketers should be right," Raja is quoted as saying by Daily Jang

"Their service for the country cannot be denied but at this point both of them should say goodbye to Pakistan cricket team.

"I have the habit of speaking the truth, and the truth is that their decision to leave could benefit Pakistan team."

Both Malik and Hafeez, the former more than the latter, had horrible World Cup campaigns in the 50-over format last year. Despite this, both want to play the T20 World Cup and are not deterred by the fact that the event will take place in Australia where neither player had a stellar record even in their prime.
