The anticipation for the World Cup is gripping the hearts of Pakistani cricket fans and to make things even more exciting, Sufi rock band Junoon announced that they are going to sing the anthem for the mega tournament.

After a hiatus of 15 years, the group announced the news via lead vocalist, Ali Azmat’s social media, leaving fans excited for what’s to come.

“Me, Ali and Brian have come together for Pakistan’s unity,” Salman Ahmed said in the video. “We will do our nation proud and Pakistan’s cricket team will raise its head in pride.”

Along with Salman Ahmed and Brian O’Connell, Ali Azmat is also seen in the video stating that the song is dedicated to the “marginalised” groups in Pakistan and that “Pakistan belongs to them too”.

Junoon has previously sung the 1997 World Cup anthem ‘Jaazba-e-Junoon’ which quickly became a smashing hit. The trio had called it quits in 2005 when the American guitarist, O’Connell moved back to the US, whereas Azmat and Ahmed went on to progress in their solo careers.

After 23 years since their last anthem, the group is coming back together once again to produce the highly anticipated single. With successful tracks such as ‘Sayonee’ and ‘Meri Awaz Suno’, it won’t be long before this anthem will take the nation by storm.
