ICC reveals nominees for Player of the Month

Two Indian players are in the running for the men's award

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday announced the shortlists of nominees for the ICC Player of the Month awards for June.

Two stars, Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma, of India’s sensational T20 World Cup win in the USA and West Indies, along with Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz, are part of the shortlists for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month.

“India’s frontline pacer Jasprit Bumrah swept the ICC Player of the Tournament after scintillating displays of fast bowling throughout June, earning his third nomination for the Player of the Month awards,” the ICC said in a press release.

“His compatriot Rohit Sharma skippered India to their first ICC silverware in 13 years and is shortlisted having topped his side’s runscoring charts.

“Completing the lineup is Afghanistan’s electric opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who lit up the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, ending as the tournament’s top run-getter.”

The ICC Women’s Player of the Month shortlist contains England batter Maia Bouchier, who will be keen to win her second Women’s Player of the Month.

Sri Lanka’s Vishmi Gunaratne, who stole the limelight in their home ODI series against West Indies after winning the Player of the Series award, is also part of the shortlists.

The final nominee is India’s Smriti Mandhana, seeking to win her first ICC Women’s Player of the Month courtesy superb showing with the bat against South Africa.

An independent ICC Voting Academy and fans around the world will now be invited to cast their votes to decide the winners, which will be announced next week. Fans are now able to vote for their favourite performers at icc-cricket.com/awards.
