Aakash Chopra reveals his T20 World Cup Team of the Tournament
The former Indian opener omitted Virat Kohli from his best XI
Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra revealed his T20 World Cup 2024 Team of the Tournament after India won the title by beating South Africa in the final in Barbados on June 29.
India became the third team after West Indies and England to win the T20 World Cup two times as they won their first mega event by beating Pakistan in the final in 2007.
Talking on his YouTube channel, Chopra stated that he will include Rohit Sharma as an opener and captain due to his stellar performances in the tournament. Despite winning the Player of the Match award in the final, he left Virat Kohli out of the team.
"I am starting with Rohit Sharma as an opener and captain. I have got Rahmanullah Gurbaz to open with him. Virat Kohli couldn't get a place because he scored runs in only one match. I have kept Nicholas Pooran at No. 3,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“I was thinking about Rishabh Pant. He scored runs at the start but after that, he suddenly went cold. It was again a contentious decision about who to keep at No. 4. I have gone towards Suryakumar Yadav. I was slightly split at No. 5. Should we keep Miller or Klaasen? I am going with Klaasen.”
Chopra was thinking about putting one of Pat Cummins, who bagged two hat-tricks in the tournament, and Anrich Nortje, but decided to go with Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi ultimately.
"I have kept Hardik Pandya and he should be kept. After that, I have kept Rashid Khan and he is also my vice-captain. Then I have kept an interesting choice. I have kept Rishad Hossain, the leg-spinner from Bangladesh,” he added.
“After that, Boom Boom [Jasprit Bumrah]- no question, a no-brainer. Then I have kept Fazalhaq Farooqi and Arshdeep Singh. I thought about Pat Cummins, two hat-tricks, and Anrich Nortje, but Fazalhaq Farooqi has been absolutely outstanding," he added further.
