Pakistan’s all-rounder Shoaib Malik made a massive statement about white-ball skipper Babar Azam saying he will not fit in any big international side in T20Is.

Pakistan suffered a group-stage exit in the T20 World Cup for the first time as they lost to the United States and India in their first two matches.

After first two losses, the Green Shirts needed Ireland to beat the home side but the match was called off in Florida due to rain and as a result Babar Azam’s men were out of the tournament.

Pakistan failed to chase a 120-run target against India despite having the match in their grasp and were unable to defend 15 runs in the last over against the USA. Their inability to handle pressure raised multiple questions.

Malik, who made his international debut in 1999, stated that Babar is Pakistan’s best player but he would not fit in any of the top international teams in the shorter format.

"Who is our best player? Our best player is Babar Azam. I am just talking about the top four to five teams. Can Babar fit into the playing XI of those teams? Of Australia, India or England in just this particular format? The answer is no," Malik said while talking on a local sports show.

It must be noted that India won the T20 World Cup 2024 by beating South Africa in the final by seven runs on Saturday in Barbados.

India joined England and the West Indies to win the T20 World Cup title two times as they won their first in 2007 by beating Pakistan in the final.

The next edition of the T20 World Cup will be held in 2026 in India and Sri Lanka for which 12 teams are confirmed while the remaining eight will make their way to the mega event after playing the qualifiers.
