England defeated Slovakia 2-1 in Euro 2024 Round of 16 clash after goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

England were moments away from a humiliating exit as Slovakia defended a lead they had maintained since the 25th minute when Ivan Schranz darted into the box to poke a low finish past England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

It was at that moment that Bellingham, who marked his 21st birthday on Saturday, showcased the brilliance that has made him England’s emerging superstar. He leapt into the air in the penalty area and executed a stunning overhead kick to guide Marc Guehi's headed flick past Martin Dubravka.

Captain Harry Kane underscored England’s sudden superiority a minute into the extra 30 minutes by heading home from close range to complete a remarkable turnaround and arrange a quarter-final clash with Switzerland.

England will take on Switzerland in the quarter-final, who comfortably knocked out holders Italy 2-0 on Saturday.

The Three Lions have been touted as one of the favourites to end a 58-year wait for major tournament glory but appeared poised to exit quietly after Ivan Schranz's 25th-minute goal.

The win has injected new life into Gareth Southgate's tenure as England manager.

"That's the desire and the attitude from the boys. It looked tough for a second there but you keep going... Jude does what Jude does and what an unbelievable goal," Kane said after the game.

Meanwhile, Kane hailed the Bellingham's goal as "one of the best in our country's history, I reckon".
