Indian captain Rohit Sharma has bagged the T20 World Cup record after playing in the ongoing 2024 final against South Africa at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

He has made history now by becoming the player with the most appearances in the men's T20 World Cup knockouts. Sharma has now played in eight knockout matches, surpassing notable cricketers.

Surprisingly, five Sri Lankan cricketers have featured in the most knockout games.

Most Knockout Appearances in Men’s T20 World Cup:

Rohit Sharma - 8

Tillakaratne Dilshan - 7

Mahela Jayawardene - 7

Lasith Malinga - 7

Angelo Mathews - 7

Kumar Sangakkara - 7

Meanwhile, it was not a day for Rohit in final as he fell for nine runs off four balls. Remember, India opted to bat first in the all-important final.

India: 1 Rohit Sharma (capt), 2 Virat Kohli, 3 Rishabh Pant (wk), 4 Suryakumar Yadav, 5 Shivam Dube, 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Axar Patel, 8 Ravindra Jadeja, 9 Arshdeep Singh, 10 Kuldeep Yadav, 11 Jasprit Bumrah.

South Africa: 1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Reeza Hendricks, 3 Aiden Markram (capt), 4 Heinrich Klaasen, 5 David Miller, 6 Tristan Stubbs, 7 Marco Jansen, 8 Keshav Maharaj, 9 Kagiso Rabada, 10 Anrich Nortje, 11 Tabraiz Shamsi.

Remember, this is India’s first final since the T20 World Cup final in 2014 where they lost to Sri Lanka in Dhaka. Having won their last ICC trophy in 2013, there will be immense pressure on Rohit Sharma and his men to end the drought.

On the other hand, South Africa, playing their first-ever World Cup final, have been regarded as the “chokers” in the world of cricket due to their inability to handle pressure and losing matches at crucial stages. They reached the semi-finals in the 2009 and 2014 T20 World Cups but lost to Pakistan and India respectively.
