Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has opened up about India receiving favours from the International Cricket Council (ICC) in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

India were pre-decided to play the semi-final in Guyana while the second semi-final had no reserve-day too.

Butt believes that India was not favoured that there is no bias regarding the team on behalf of the ICC and that Pakistan just does not like to see India winning.

“People are talking a lot about the ICC favouring India and giving them matches in Guyana. If we had scored 42 on 42 balls (against India) with eight wickets in hand, then we would have won all the other games. What we don’t like is India winning. This does not present us well in the world,” stated Butt on a local sports channel.

Butt also gave reasons why India have been over the top in recent outings including the T20 World Cup 2024.

“If we look at the situation professionally then they (India) have played better cricket, their pathways of cricket are very clear. They are clear about their roles be it leadership or coaching. The system through which they create their bench strength (is clear).

"The team they have announced for the Zimbabwe series is entirely based upon young players with a young captain. This time, they will play a five-match Test series against Australia and before the series, they are going to send an A-Team which will play four-day cricket there,” he added.

Butt then went on to criticise Pakistan’s planning and system of cricket saying that it is irrelevant, “They do all the relevant things. We have a series against Bangladesh and we are going to Australia to play a four-day match against Bangladesh that too in Darwin. Everything we are doing and planning is irrelevant.”

Pakistan cricket team faced an early exit in the T20 World Cup 2024 as they failed to qualify for the Super 8 round after losing two group games against the USA in a super over and India. India then went on to win all of their games in the tournament and will now face South Africa in the final today in Barbados.
