Former captain of Bangladesh Shakib Al Hasan criticised his team’s lack of determination in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 after suffering their second defeat in the Super Eight against India on Saturday.

They have also been defeated against Australia by 28 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method on Friday.

“We were always thinking that we came to do something good, and we will do it."

"But if you look at the result or the performance on the ground, we actually couldn't show any fight in that way. It's disappointing," former skipper Shakib said.

Shakib was questioned about when Bangladesh was going to win the world title. In response, he said that there is a huge gap between us and the powerful teams.

"I don't know how long it will take. When we played with two big teams, who were maybe the closest contenders for the World Cup, our gap with them was clearly visible.”

"So, it is disappointing to me that we still have such huge gaps," said the 37-year-old Shakib.

India made 196 runs for five, while Bangladesh was able to manage only 146-8 within 20 overs. The Tigers’ captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, scored the most at 40.

Additionally, Bangladesh have always struggled to score runs throughout the tournament. Towhid Hridoy is their highest run scorer with 139 runs in six innings.

Veteran player Shakib was the only player for the Tigers to make 50 runs in the first stage of the tournament against the Netherlands.

The player also mentioned that he’s not going to take any hasty decisions for his career.

“If the team think that they need me, and if I think that I need the team and I am feeling desired in that way, then it is a matter of playing for the team," he said.

"Otherwise, if I am not enjoying myself, then, of course, I will not play. When it's time, everyone will come to know about it," he concluded.
