Despite a foreign trainer arranged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir hired a personal trainer for the T20 World Cup 2024, sources told Geo News

He got special permission from the PCB and used to bear all the expenses of the trainer himself.

However, the cricket body made the required arrangements in this regard, they said.

The bowler did not take the trainer to just the US, but also during the Ireland and England tours as well.

The rest of the team, nevertheless, were trained separately. This is a very surprising situation because one player of the team was trained separately.

The sources said that the Pakistani side did not seem to be united as a team throughout the tournament which led to their early exit from the mega T20 event.

One of the reasons is that all the players were accompanied by their families. Apart from players and support staff, a group of 26-28 people comprising the cricketers’ wives and family members travelled.

Other than Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Imad Wasim, and Wahab Riaz were also accompanied by their wives and children, while skipper Babar Azam’s parents and brother toured the US with the Men in Green. Haris Rauf, on the other hand, travelled with his spouse.

The team players and their family members reportedly held parties and gatherings after matches.

The 32-year-old pacer was really excited for the tournament and mentioned his personal trainer earlier.

“I know T20 cricket has evolved as well. But the good thing is that I have been active on the T20 circuit even after I decided to retire in 2020 from international cricket.” Amir also confirmed that he had hired a personal trainer, whose job is to ensure that his body remained fit and ready to endure the rigours of modern-day cricket.

“I have invested in a personal trainer because cricket is my bread and butter, and if I want to continue earning from it, I have to remain match-fit and ready,” he said.

The Pakistan cricket team didn’t qualify for the Super Eight, which led to its elimination from the tournament. The team is facing criticism over their poor performance in the group stage matches.

Pakistan were defeated by debutants USA by five runs in a Super Over tie and against India by six runs. They managed to win against Canada on (June 11) by seven wickets.

With the match between the US and Ireland abandoned due to rain on (June 14), the co-hosts secured one point, consequently ending Pakistan's hopes of proceeding in the tournament.

The national team's last league game against Ireland was only a formality, after which the squad returned home.
