Former England captain Michael Vaughan’s son, Archie Vaughan, signed a two-year deal with County Cricket club Somerset which will keep him there till 2026.

Archie, a top-order batter and off-spinner, has been part of the academy which has been placed in Taunton since 2020. He will begin his journey with Somerset in November 2024 which will continue till the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

The 18-year-old debuted for Somerset’s second team in 2022 and has been playing club cricket locally for Taunton St Andrews.

"It's something that I've worked extremely hard for and it's something that I've strived for since I was a kid, so to get the opportunity for a club where I've really enjoyed myself over the last few years is an honour," Archie told Somerset's club website.

"I will be looking to gain as much experience as I can and learn as much as I can from the more experienced players in the dressing room.”

Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry welcomed the signing of Archie saying he is someone with a bright future.

"Archie is a young man with a bright future ahead of him. Since joining the academy, he has demonstrated a genuine and strong desire to work incredibly hard and improve every facet of his game.

"This hard work alongside his impressive on-field performances have led to second XI opportunities, in which he has flourished."

It is worth mentioning Michael Vaughan is widely considered one of the finest batters in England’s history. He represented the country in 82 Tests and 86 ODIs. He was also present in the historic Ashes win in 2015.
