Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh suffered a hamstring injury on April 3rd during the Indian Premier League (IPL) while playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) in a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and was ruled out of the remainder of the matches.

Marsh was immediately flown to Perth to undergo rehab and treatment with the Cricket Australia (CA) medical team.

The Australian captain has now provided update regarding his injury after recent speculation over whether he will be available for the T20 World Cup in June or not.

“Once I was ruled out of the IPL, we've certainly taken our time to get right. And I feel lucky that I've had that bit of extra time, a little bit of time at home to refresh,” Marsh told Cricket Australia.

Marsh had only played four matches in the IPL, scoring 61 runs with a high score of 23. He didn’t bowl much and picked up one wicket in eight overs during his stay at the league.

Marsh revealed that his recovery has been slow but he is getting better with time.

“It's been progressively slow, but I'm finally getting there now and looking forward to getting stuck into the tournament," he added.

"Initially we thought it was a three-weeker, but with tendons, they can take a little bit longer and you've sort of got to go on feel.”

The captain revealed that bowling is off the cards for him for a little while as his hamstrings have not fully healed.

“Probably still a little while off. I'll start bowling hopefully soon. Get through these practice games as a batter and then we'll ramp it up, but it's one of the beauties of being captain now, I don't have to bowl myself.”

Marsh was made captain last year ahead of the T20I series against South Africa and has been leading the team ever since and the skipper has nothing but praise for the talent they have in the team.

"We're lucky that we've got so many options with the ball and so much talent, Stoin [Marcus Stoinis] and Greenie [Cameron Green], and we've got a lot of options. So, all our planning, it allows me to be really clear on that. I'll bowl when I need to bowl, but outside that, it's always team first."

Australia is grouped with Oman, England, Namibia and Scotland in the Group B of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Australia’s first game of the tournament is against Oman at Barbados on June 5.
