Former cricketer and TV commentator Ramiz Raja expressed disappointment and concern at the fact that many cricketers are now opting for retirement from Test cricket.

Wahab Riaz on Thursday announced that he will be taking an indefinite break from red-ball cricket and hence withdrew from the domestic tournament, Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Earlier, Mohammad Amir also announced his retirement from Test cricket at the age of just 27 so as to focus on white-ball cricket.

Many cricketers, including veteran fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar and wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal, urged Amir to re-consider his decision since quitting would be a waste of talent.

"The boards must devise a system to prevent young cricketers to quit Test cricket," stated Akhtar.

Ramiz Raja, having also spoken earlier at the time of Amir's retirement, took to social media once again and highlighted the importance of Test cricket with his concern.

Raja believes that it is a failure of the cricket system when cricketers choose the easy way out and focus on the shorter formats.

"It’s in fact failure of the cricket system when cricketers start retiring from Test Cricket to concentrate on ODI’s and T20’s," he stated.

The former cricketer added that such news from Pakistani players makes it seem like they're just not interested in Test cricket.

"Mohammad Amir at 27 and now Wahab. [I] get the impression that Pak players are quite happy being dismissive of Test Cricket!"

"Should we be worried?" is what Raja questioned in anticipation, on whether more cricketers will follow the lead of Amir and Riaz.
