LAHORE: Hosts Pakistan’s name is not written on Asia Cup 2023 jersey and it has brought up a debate among fans and cricket experts.

In any multi-nation tournament, players’ jerseys carry the name of host nation right under the tournament’s name on the right side.

However, according to the sources, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had decided not to print the name of the host nation and year of the tournament on jerseys to bring consistency.

The decision was taken last year after T20 Asia Cup when hosts Sri Lanka’s name and year were mentioned on players’ kits. Back then, there was a debate on mentioning the hosts’ name on shirts as Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had hosting rights but the event was played in the UAE due to political and financial instability in the Island.

Due to massive confusion, the ACC decided to no longer print the name of the host nation on shirts, sources added.

The Asia Cup 2023 is currently underway in Pakistan, who are the hosts, and Sri Lanka between August 30 and September 17.

Pakistan beat Nepal in the opening match on Wednesday in Multan.

India are the defending champions of the 50-over Asia Cup, which was last held in 2018.
