Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones, who was also in the running for head coach, congratulated Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis after they were appointed for the coveted positions.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday announced Misbah-ul-Haq as the head coach and chief selector of the national cricket team, succeeding South African cricket coach and former cricketer Mickey Arthur, whereas Waqar Younis was named the bowling coach, who was handed the position after Azhar Mahmood.

Both candidates were offered a three-year contract by the PCB.

Head coach of the Islamabad United Franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Dean Jones took to social media and wished the fellow applicants best of luck for their future endeavors. Misbah and Younis were also part of the same team for PSL as captain and bowling coach respectively.

"I want to wish my 2 good mates in @captainmisbahpk and @waqyounis99 all the best in their new posts," he wrote.

"We have won Championships together and they will do well for Pakistan. Good luck men. #anotherchallenge," he added.
