KARACHI: Pakistan's Usman Qamar won gold in the cycling event of the ongoing Special Olympics World Games in Berlin today.

Qamar, who was participating in the event for the first time, covered a 5km distance in 21.59s to bag the first position. 

"I prepared really hard for this event and came here to win the medal. Alhamdulillah, I did it," the cyclist told Geo News. 

"I would like to thank my coach Maham Tariq and Special Olympics Pakistan for training me for this event. I am looking forward to winning mode medals for Pakistan," he added. 

Meanwhile, Qamar's coach Maham praised the athlete for his performance. "Qamar made his entry to the contingent at the very last moment. I am very proud of him and I hope he continues performing like this in the future," she said. 

Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan won four medals. Saifullah Solangi won two gold medals in the powerlifting event. He won the gold medals after lifting 90 kg in the back squat and a deadlift of 115 kg.

In the combined event, Solangi bagged a silver medal with a lift of 245 kg. He also won a bronze medal in the 40 kg bench press.

Overall, Solangi won two Gold, one Silver and one Bronze in the Special Olympics World Games Powerlifting event.
