LAHORE: Pakistan's rising star Saim Ayub is ready to take the challenge against New Zealand which will be only his second international T20 series.

Saim, who was named in Pakistan's squad for Afghanistan T20I series which concluded in March, has been retained in the squad for the shorter format home series against New Zealand.

"I am really excited to play my second international series," said Saim who scored 66 runs in three matches against Afghanistan in Sharjah.

"I am ready to take any role in the team. I am focused to play and perform," replied opening batter Saim.

With the return of the team's regular openers Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, Saim could be demoted down the batting order in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand.

While talking about his experience of playing with Babar as an opener in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8, Saim said he enjoyed it a lot

"I enjoyed a lot while playing alongside Babar under his captaincy," he shared. "Babar gives a lot of confidence. So far, I have enjoyed my time with Babar and I hope it will continue for a long period of time," he added.

Babar and Saim remained the most successful pair in PSL 8. They both scored the highest partnership of 162 runs in the tournament.

Saeed Anwar's reflection

Saim is often compared with one of the greatest batters of Pakistan, Saeed Anwar. To a query about following the left-handed opener, he mostly watches the batters of his type.

"I have watched the videos of Saeed Anwar. I mostly watch videos of left-handers. Saeed Anwar has a good name and I will try to become like him," he concluded.
