Indian police have arrested a 20-year-old college student for allegedly sending an email to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) mentioning a threat for the Indian team.

The PCB had recently received an email from an anonymous sender, who had claimed that the Virat Kohli-led Indian team could be targeted in a terrorist attack in Antigua, where they are currently playing the first Test against the West Indies.

The PCB, as per the SOP, had forwarded the email to the International Cricket Council (ICC), which had alerted the Indian authorities. The email was later deemed a hoax but the Indian board had still beefed up the team’s security in the Caribbean.

Times of India reported today that the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has identified a student as the sender of that email, and made the arrest.

It remains unclear what the suspect’s motive was for sending the email to the PCB.
