TV commentator Ian Bishop has urged England captain Joe Root to not overwork star speedster Jofra Archer — whom he referred to as “the goose that laid the golden egg”.

While Australia have a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, the debutante pacer’s hostile pace bowling in the second drawn Test have indicated that England can very well mount a comeback.

Archer had also starred in England’s successful World Cup 2019 campaign, famously also bowling the Super Over that had won his side their maiden title.

The world champions appear to have found a real gem in the form of the imported Barbadian, but Bishop has stressed that it is important “to be more mindful of better managing Joffra Archer’s workload”.

Bowling at rapid speeds puts a tremendous amount of strain on the body and could lead to career-altering injuries in the absence of shrewd management.
