KARACHI: Due to a wrist injury, British No. 1 Emma Raducanu withdrew from the Transylvania Open in Romania.

Last year, the 19-year-old, whose father was born in Romania, advanced to the tournament's quarterfinals.

In her first full year on the WTA tour, Raducanu has experienced injury problems as she attempts to build on her 2021 US Open victory.

Her most recent injury forced her to withdraw from the Korea Open semi-final against Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia.

The 67th-ranked Raducanu then competed at the Ostrava Open but was defeated by Russian Daria Kasatkina in the opening round.

Raducanu was eliminated by Caroline Garcia of France from Wimbledon's second round earlier this year.

"Sadly, Emma Raducanu is forced to withdraw from Transylvania Open due to a wrist injury. Get well fast, Emma! We're looking forward to see you soon," said tournament organisers on social media.

The Billie Jean King Cup will begin on November 8 in Glasgow, and Great Britain captain Anne Keothavong will reveal her starting lineup on Monday.
