Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has granted cricket legend MS Dhoni the permission to spend the next two months under training with the Territorial Army battalion of the parachute regiment, according to NDTV.

Dhoni, an honorary lieutenant colonel in the Indian army, had recently made himself "unavailable" for the team’s upcoming tour to West Indies amidst retirement speculation.

According to reports, he sought permission from the Indian army chief, who granted his request.

The veteran wickkeeper-batsman, according to reports, is expected to train in various areas, including the Indian-occupied Kashmir.

NDTV reported that Dhoni will train like Indian soldiers for the next two months, although he won't be taking part in any actual military activity.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dhoni completed a quintet of parachute training jumps in 2015, following which he was made a qualified paratrooper.
