KARACHI: Lahore Qalandars have defeated Islamabad United by 8 runs in a nail-biting clash as young pacer Zaman Khan held his nerves and defended 12 runs in the last over brilliantly, conceding just three runs against hitters including Asif Ali and Azam Khan in the 12th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 at the National Stadium.

United was handed a 175-run target and was cruising at one stage when Shadab Khan and Colin Munro forged a 100-run stand for the third wicket.

Shadab scored 52 before he was dismissed by Rashid Khan, and Munro scored 60 as both played blistering knocks to put United in the driver's seat.

But, Qalandars bowlers pulled back the things in the late overs, by just giving way singles and doubles, and require run-rate increased.

Shaheen Shah Afridi registered figures of 1-24 in four overs, Rashid Khan was brilliant again as he gave away just 21 runs in four overs and also took the crucial wicket of Shadab.

Zaman took one wicket for 29 runs and showed his skills in the last over with the brilliant bowling in the pressure situation.

Winning the toss, Islamabad United elected to bowl first against Lahore Qalandars. Qalandars' Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique seemed dangerous at the start, but United's skipper Shadab Khan struck as he bowled out Abdullah Shafique, breaking the momentum of the Qalandars.

Shadab Khan also took crucial wickets of Fakhar Zama, Mohammad Hafeez, and Phil Salt.
