LONDON: Veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik and bowler Hasan Ali have been dropped from Pakistan's final XI against South Africa in today's must-win encounter.

Batsman Haris Sohail and teen pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi are playing in their place.

Malik, 38, has been under fire for failing to click with the bat in the ongoing World Cup. He has twice been out for a duck and eight in his last three innings.

Hasan Ali has by far been the biggest under-performer in the bowling department in this tournament, picking a wicket after every 128 runs. His bowling average has been a dismal 98.97, and he has picked just two wickets in his last three matches.

Pakistan need to win all four of their remaining matches, AND rely on the outcome of a few other matches, in order to have a shot at making it to the top four.

The team currently sits on the ninth spot with three points from five games.
