Ricky Ponting’s
aggregate is now the second highest, after Indian batsman
Sachin Tendulkar’s 1732.
- Ponting,s aggregate
of 1111 runs is now the highest by an Australian,
surpassing Mark Waugh’s 1004. Australia is the
only team with two players to make 1000 World Cup
runs where as among others one each from the West
Indies, India and Pakistan are included in the elite
club. No player from any other country has so far
reached this milestone.
Other
feats:
- Ponting’s
113 is the 23rd hundred of his 270-match One-day International
career. He has now joined India’s Saurav Ganguly
as the second highest scorer of ODI centuries after
Tendulkar’s improbable 41.
- This was also
his fourth hundred in World Cups and he equaled the
record jointly held by Sachin Tendulkar, Mark Waugh
and Sarov Ganguly.
- Ponting also
equaled the record of scoring the most hundreds as
captain in World Cups, earlier set by Ganguly as India’s
captain.
- The five sixes
in his 113 took Ponting’s World Cup tally to
24, surpassing Ganguly’s 23.
- His total sixes
in ODI career are now 126, thus he has equaled his
team-mate Adam Gilchrist’s Australian record.
