SHARJAH: Defending champion Islamabad United beat Lahore Qalandars by 12 runs in the 11th match of the fourth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the Sharjah cricket stadium here on Friday.

Batting first, Islamabad United set a victory target of 159 runs for Peshawar Zalmi. IR Bell was the top scorer with 54 runs of 46 balls, while CS Delport scored 29 runs of 18 balls.

United's 18-year-old Muhammad Musa with his sensational three-for-23 runs spell scripted 12 runs win at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Later, Islamabad's skipper Sami recorded a phenomenal hattrick in the last over of the game, with the dismissals of Wahab Riaz, Umaid Asif and Hasan Ali in the death overs. He gave 22 runs in his spell.

Faheem Ashraf extended the pressure on Zalmi by taking out the wicket of Imamul Haq. He picked two wickets in the game.

At one stage, the game was shifted in Zalmi's favour courtesy strong hitting by skipper Sammy and Pollard. However, the onslaught was stopped after a while with all credit to Faheem Ashraf and Musa.

Peshawar Zalmi captain Darren Sammy had won the toss and decided to bowl first against Islamabad United .

Sameen Gul and Hassan Ali took three and two wickets respectively.
