India won the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa in the final of the tournament in Barbados, ending their 11-year drought of trophies.

The last title the Indian team won was the Champions Trophy 2013 and their head coach Rahul Dravid believes that the team lacks nothing and will not take long to win another trophy.

"There was a moment when we were feeling that we were working really hard and playing good cricket as well but we were not able to cross that hurdle. But after today I am very hopeful that these boys will take it forward and win a lot of trophies.

"We have fantastic talent in Indian cricket right now. The energy and confidence the players have is at another level. We were aiming for an ICC trophy for a long time and I am sure the team will carry this confidence forward and will win a lot of trophies in the next four, five, six years because the ability and talent this bunch has, they lack nothing,” the former head coach stated after the match.

Dravid was named the head coach of the Indian team, succeeding Ravi Shastri in 2021. He was supposed to be with the team for two years but his term was extended till the T20 World Cup 2024. Before India began their T20 World Cup 2024 journey, Dravid had confirmed that the event would be his last as India’s head coach.

Under his coaching, the Indian team reached the finals of the World Test Championship and Cricket World Cup in 2023 but they returned home without a trophy.

Dravid also expressed his pride over the team and the fight they have within them, "I'm not usually short of words but I have felt really short of words over the last few hours. I just could not be more proud of this team. The way we've had to fight in difficult situations and even today, I think it was a great testament to the fight in the team.

"Losing three wickets in the first six [overs], to be in the kind of position we were in with 30 balls to go. But the boys just kept fighting, they kept believing, and I think it's just a great credit to them,” Dravid concluded.

Apart from Dravid, India’s captain Rohit Sharma, veteran batter Virat Kohli and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have also revealed their intentions to retire from T20I cricket stating that the final against South Africa was the last T20I of their career.
