Carlos Alcaraz has won his first French Open title after defeating Alexander Zverev with sets of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1 and 6-2 at the Philippe Chatrier Court in Paris on Sunday, June 9.
Alcaraz had a 2-5 lead in the third set but his victory was seeming in danger as Zverev came back with a set of 7-5 but Alcaraz managed to make history and knocked down the German player in five sets.
The tennis star won the Roland Garros for the first time in his career and this title win also makes him the youngest player to win the title since 2007 when fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal won the third of his record 14 titles.
Alcaraz has now won three of four tennis’ biggest events – the 2022 US Opena and Wimbledon in 2023 – and now the Roland Garros at the magestic Philippe Chartier in Paris.
At 21 years-old. he also became the youngest to reach the finals of Grand Slam on all three surfaces (hard court, grass and now the Paris clay).
Alcaraz also became the youngest man to make a Grand Slam final on all three surfaces in the professional era since Andre Agassi in 1968.
Alcaraz can make more history; if he wins the Australian Open title in 2025 or 2026, he will break the record of Don Budge’s as the youngest to win all four of the Grand Slams.
Alcaraz and Zverev reached the final after defeating Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud in their respective semi-finals on June 7.
As for Zverev, he reached the semi-finals of the French Open in the last four years and never got to the final stage.
